Lerner and Rowe Gives Back Foundation Donates $5,000 to Phoenix Rescue Mission

Last year Lerner and Rowe raised $6,465 and collected 3,165 total cases of bottled water for Phoenix Rescue Mission’s 2012 water drive.  This year we stepped up our efforts to support the mission by donating $5,000 to kick-off their new Code Red Heat Relief Campaign.  Jay Cory, President and CEO of Phoenix Rescue Mission accepted our donation on behalf of the mission.

Phoenix Rescue Mission

The Code Red Heat Relief Campaign differs from previous years in that this year the Phoenix Rescue Mission is also collecting sunscreen, chap stick, hats, light colored shirts, white socks and other personal items in addition to bottled water to help assist elderly shut-ins and homeless individuals and families during the sweltering Phoenix summer months.Lerner and Rowe’s four Phoenix law offices are hosting convenient drop-off locations for those who want to donate cases of bottled water and other heat relief items Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m through the end of the mission’s 2013 Code Red Heat Relief Campaign.   All bottled water cases and personal heat-relief item donations will be delivered to the mission.

What our community partners are saying about Lerner and Rowe Gives Back

There are many reasons why I do what I do and why I encourage other Phoenix businesses and individuals to help others that are less fortunate.  The following is an excerpt from a letter Lerner and Rowe Gives Back received from Mark W. Tullis, Major Gifts Officer at the Phoenix Rescue Mission at the end of their 2012 water drive:

“Let me tell you about one person that you’ll touch this week. Late Friday afternoons, I sometimes bring the mail to the Phoenix Main Post Office on Washington. Near the drive-up mail boxes, I always see the same homeless man laying in the rocks, shading himself with a shopping cart filled with every possession that he owns. Last Friday before I left the office, I grabbed a garbage bag, filled it with 10-12 bottles of water, threw some ice on top and drove to the post office. My dashboard display showed 111 degrees. As I pulled up in my air conditioned car, I beeped my horn.

The man lethargically looked up almost too tired to lift his head off the ground. I handed him the bag through the passenger window, told him that God loves him, and that the Phoenix Rescue Mission was ready to help him. He took the bag, looked inside, and immediately opened a bottle of water. As he was drinking, he thanked me with his eyes.

This Friday that will be the water that Lerner and Rowe Give Back has collected. Will this save a life…I don’t know but I do know you’ll make his day a whole lot better.”
