Driver Armando Acosta Killed in West Phoenix Crash, Racing Suspected

Phoenix, AZ (July 8,2018)- Armando Acosta was killed following a west Phoenix crash early Saturday morning.

The wreck happened near McDowell Road and 67th Avenue, according to the Phoenix Police, between a Nissan, which Armando Acosta was driving, and a Mustang, driven by Jario Pedregon. The collision knocked out power to hundreds in the area.

The crash occurred after the two cars appeared to be racing each other, when one clipped the other, causing an out-of-control crash, according to the police. Armando Acosta died at the scene and Pedregon was charged with homicide and arrested. It also appeared, according to authorities, that Jario was impaired at the time of the crash.

The accident shut down McDowell Road from 67th to 71st avenues for several hours while the accident was investigated.

Power was restored in the afternoon.
