New Year’s Eve is just a few weeks away. To help prevent potential injuries and other accidents that would follow you into 2020, Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys has put together the following New Year’s Eve safety tips.
Plan Transportation Ahead of Time. A little planning goes a long way when it comes to New Year’s Eve safety. Make a schedule of events so you know how you will safely travel from one party to the next. Be sure to confirm transportation well before the holiday arrives.
If you play it by ear, you will almost certainly end up without a ride, or you may end up relying on an inebriated driver. The worst-case scenario is being tempted to drive after drinking. So, do some research and plan ahead. Make sure that your ride-share accounts are up to date and note the number of the local taxi companies that service the area.
Conceal Your Money. New Year’s Eve is a fantastic holiday for pickpockets and thieves. Hide your money before heading out for an evening of partying. Also, do not put all of your money in your wallet. Place some in another safe space on your clothes or coat just in case you lose track of your wallet or are robbed.
Do Not Party Alone on New Year’s Eve. The buddy system is a vital part of New Year’s Eve safety. Partying alone may subject you to dangers that you would not face if you were spending the evening with friends, family, or a significant other. At the bare minimum, make plans with a friend or two.
If you head out instead of staying in to ring in the new year, establish a meetup point in case any of you are separated during the night. Be sure to communicate your plans with everyone in your group so they are fully aware of where you intend to go. Keep a group chat open so that everyone in the group can keep tabs on each other.
When in Doubt, Over-prepare. When it comes to New Year’s Eve safety, it’s better to be safe than sorry. It might seem geeky to carry an extra phone charger, but it could prove to be a lifesaver. You need your phone on hand and in working condition on the biggest party night of the year.
So bring along a portable charger or put a car or wall charger in your purse or bag. It will come in handy after you have taken a couple dozen New Year’s Eve party selfies and need additional battery juice to coordinate a meetup with friends or find a Lyft ride home.
Drink With Care. We’ve already touched on the fact that if you plan to drink, make sure that you have a safe way to get home. Other tips include staying within your limits, never accepting an open drink from a stranger, and always keeping a watchful eye on your drink to ensure no one slips any type of pill into it.
