76-Year-Old Man Killed in Pedestrian Accident on Grant Road in Tucson

Police said a 76 year old man was killed after being struck by an SUV while crossing East Grant Road near North Arcadia Avenue Tuesday morning in Tucson.

Tucson, AZ.- A 76 year old pedestrian was killed following an accident involving a Volkswagen SUV Tuesday morning in Tucson.

The accident occurred on September 8 on East Grant Road near North Arcadia Avenue.

Authorities identified the pedestrian as Steven Lee McClain.

Police said McClain attempted to cross East Grant Road at North Arcadia Avenue using a crosswalk equipped with a HAWK pedestrian signal.

According to investigators, McClain activated the signal and entered the intersection before the traffic signal completed its cycle to solid red.

A Volkswagen SUV traveling on East Grant Road then struck McClain.

Authorities said the SUV was traveling at approximately 40 mph, which is the posted speed limit in the area.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, but McClain suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Volkswagen was not injured in the collision.

Police said the driver showed no signs of impairment.
