Troopers said a 22 year old Groveland man was killed and a semi truck driver was injured following a wrong way head on accident Wednesday morning on State Road 33.
Groveland, FL.- One man was killed and another was injured following a two vehicle accident Wednesday morning on State Road 33 in Groveland.
The accident occurred around 6 a.m. on September 9 north of Edgewood Boys Ranch Road.
Authorities said the 22 year old Groveland man was driving a 2005 Ford 500 south in the northbound lanes of State Road 33.
The Ford entered the direct path of a northbound 2012 Mack tractor trailer driven by a 47 year old man from Riverview.
The truck driver swerved in an attempt to avoid the approaching Ford.
The two vehicles then collided head on, causing the tractor trailer to overturn.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, but the 22 year old Ford driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead.
The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to South Lake Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not publicly released the identity of the man who died.
Additional information about why the Ford was traveling the wrong way has not been released.
The fatal accident remains under investigation.
