Authorities said two people were killed after a small plane crashed and caught fire Thursday morning in a wooded area near U.S. 301 and Maislin Drive in East Lake-Orient Park.
East Lake-Orient Park, FL.- Two people were killed following a small plane crash Thursday morning in Hillsborough County.
The crash occurred around 8:16 a.m. on September 3 near U.S. 301 and Maislin Drive.
The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a Lancair Evolution.
Multiple 911 callers reported seeing a plane go down in the area, prompting an emergency response.
First responders arrived and found the aircraft fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and brought the fire under control in less than 10 minutes.
Authorities said only two people were aboard the aircraft at the time of the crash.
Both occupants suffered fatal injuries and died in the accident.
The pilot was identified as 59 year old David Siambanes. The passenger was identified as 53 year old Dawn Stone.
The aircraft sustained extensive damage in the crash and resulting fire.
