5 Killed in Head-On Accident on State Route 2 near Wenatchee

Authorities said five people were killed following a head on accident Sunday night on State Route 2 northeast of Wenatchee.

Wenatchee, WA.- Five people were killed following a two vehicle head on accident Sunday night on State Route 2, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The accident occurred around 9:40 p.m. on August 30 northeast of Wenatchee.

Authorities said a westbound passenger car carrying four men crossed the center line and entered the path of an oncoming vehicle.

The two vehicles then collided head on.

The second vehicle was occupied by a 77 year old woman from Omak, Washington.

All five people involved in the collision suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the identities of those who died while officials work to notify their families.

Washington State Patrol investigators indicated that drugs, alcohol, or both may have contributed to the fatal collision.

State Route 2 was closed for several hours Sunday night into Monday morning while emergency crews responded, investigators examined the accident scene, and crews cleared the roadway.

The highway has since reopened to traffic.

The accident remains under investigation.
