Authorities said an Albuquerque police officer was injured following a collision involving a marked police vehicle and another car Tuesday morning at California Avenue and Cochiti Street.
Albuquerque, NM.- An Albuquerque police officer was injured following a two vehicle accident Tuesday morning in the War Zone area.
The accident occurred around 11 a.m. on September 1 at the intersection of California Avenue and Cochiti Street.
According to Albuquerque Police Communications Director Gilbert Gallegos, the officer had finished responding to one call and was heading to another when the collision occurred.
Authorities said another vehicle struck the marked police unit on its side.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to the scene and evaluated both drivers. Neither person was transported from the accident scene by ambulance, according to the initial report.
Police later confirmed that the officer suffered injuries and was receiving medical treatment.
Witnesses provided a different account of the circumstances surrounding the collision. One witness reported that the police vehicle was traveling quickly through the intersection without emergency lights activated while the other vehicle was already partway through the intersection.
Both the police vehicle and the other car sustained extensive damage in the collision.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the officer’s injuries or whether the other driver suffered injuries.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
