Troopers said a 20 year old woman was killed following a chain reaction accident and hit and run Sunday night on Interstate 95 near Titusville.
Titusville, FL.- A 20 year old woman was killed following a multi vehicle accident Sunday night on Interstate 95 near Titusville, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred shortly before midnight on August 30 on southbound Interstate 95 near mile marker 214.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office identified the woman as Cassi Taylor, a newly hired civilian corrections assistant with the agency.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 95 initially struck an alligator that was in the roadway.
Taylor was driving a Toyota Tacoma behind that vehicle when she swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision.
Troopers said Taylor lost control of the pickup truck, causing it to overturn.
Taylor was ejected from the Toyota and came to rest in the roadway following the rollover.
Authorities said a third vehicle then struck Taylor and left the scene.
Emergency crews responded to the accident, but Taylor suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities continue working to identify the driver and vehicle that left the scene following the fatal collision.
The hit and run accident remains under investigation.
