Authorities said a 24 year old West Palm Beach man died after being struck by an SUV while crossing South Military Trail in unincorporated West Palm Beach.
West Palm Beach, FL.- A 24 year old pedestrian was killed following an accident involving an SUV on South Military Trail, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident occurred around 11:43 p.m. on August 30 in the 1900 block of South Military Trail.
Authorities identified the pedestrian as Lester Gutierrez of West Palm Beach.
Investigators said Gutierrez was crossing South Military Trail from west to east outside a marked crosswalk when he entered the path of a southbound 2020 GMC Terrain.
The SUV struck Gutierrez with its right front, causing him to hit the vehicle’s fender, hood, and windshield before being thrown onto the roadway.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported Gutierrez to St. Mary’s Medical Center in critical condition.
Authorities said Gutierrez later died from his injuries on August 31.
The 42 year old woman driving the GMC stopped near the entrance to a shopping plaza and provided assistance until emergency personnel arrived.
The driver was not injured. Investigators said they did not suspect alcohol or drug impairment on her part.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Vehicle Homicide Investigation Unit continues investigating the fatal collision.
