Authorities said a person was killed after being struck by a vehicle in a hit and run accident early Friday morning on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 47th Street in Chicago.
Chicago, IL.- A person was killed following a pedestrian hit and run accident Friday morning on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago, according to Illinois State Police.
The accident occurred around 2:40 a.m. on August 28 in the inbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway near 47th Street in the Fuller Park area.
Illinois State Police said the victim was outside a vehicle on the left shoulder of the expressway when another vehicle struck them.
The driver involved in the collision left the scene following the accident.
Emergency crews responded to the area and transported the injured person to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities later confirmed that the victim died from injuries sustained in the collision.
Police remained at the scene while investigators examined the roadway. Video from the area showed officers conducting their investigation near a red SUV.
Authorities have not released the identity of the person who died or information about the vehicle and driver that fled the scene.
All lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway reopened before approximately 5:40 a.m.
The hit and run accident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
