Authorities said one person was killed and another was seriously injured following a wrong way head on accident Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 469 in Fort Wayne.
Fort Wayne, IN.- One driver was killed and another was seriously injured following a wrong way accident Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 469.
The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on August 26.
According to initial information, a Jeep traveling from Interstate 69 entered Interstate 469 against the flow of traffic.
The Jeep continued traveling the wrong way before colliding head on with a work truck.
The driver of the work truck suffered serious injuries in the collision and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the work truck driver later died from injuries sustained in the accident.
The driver of the Jeep was also injured and transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
Eastbound Interstate 469 was temporarily closed between Maplecrest Road and St. Joe Road while emergency crews assisted those involved and investigators examined the accident scene.
A public safety alert also advised drivers to avoid the southbound side near mile marker 26, where construction was underway.
Authorities have not released the identities of the two drivers or additional information about what caused the Jeep to enter the interstate against traffic.
The accident remains under investigation.
