Carbondale, IL.- Two people were injured following a three vehicle accident Thursday morning in Carbondale, according to police.
The accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. on August 20 in the 1900 block of North Illinois Avenue, also known as U.S. Highway 51.
Emergency crews responded to the scene following reports of a collision involving three vehicles.
Investigators said a vehicle traveling southbound rear ended a second vehicle on U.S. Highway 51.
The impact caused the second vehicle to collide with a third vehicle.
Two people suffered injuries in the accident and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the identities or conditions of the two people who were hospitalized.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 51 were blocked when emergency crews arrived at the scene.
