Police said a 44 year old East St. Louis man was killed and two others were seriously injured following a two vehicle accident early Monday morning in Belleville.
Belleville, IL.- One man was killed and two other people were seriously injured following a two vehicle accident Monday morning in Belleville, according to Belleville police.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:10 a.m. on August 17 at Westfield Plaza Drive and Old St. Louis Road.
Authorities identified the man who died as 44 year old Jerome Tilmon of East St. Louis.
Tilmon was transported to Belleville Memorial Hospital following the collision. He was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after the accident.
Police said one of the vehicles traveled from the roadway and struck a brick trash enclosure at a nearby McDonald’s following the collision.
Both vehicles sustained significant front end damage in the accident.
Two other people, including a young passenger, suffered serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the conditions or identities of the two injured people.
Illinois State Police assisted Belleville police with reconstruction of the accident scene.
The eastbound lanes of Old St. Louis Road between 74th Street and Hillsdale Drive were closed while investigators examined the collision and emergency crews worked at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
