Troopers said a 24 year old Okeechobee man was killed following an accident involving a car and a Freightliner semi truck Monday on State Road 70 in Okeechobee County.
Okeechobee County, FL.- A 24 year old man was killed following a two vehicle accident Monday in Okeechobee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred on August 17 at the intersection of State Road 70 and Northeast 128th Avenue.
Troopers said a Freightliner semi truck was traveling south on Northeast 128th Avenue while a Kia K5 was traveling east on State Road 70.
According to the crash report, the semi truck was driven by a 40 year old man who failed to observe the approaching Kia before crossing State Road 70 and entering the car’s path.
The Kia struck the left side of the semi truck’s trailer.
The 24 year old Okeechobee man driving the Kia initially suffered serious injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach for treatment.
The Florida Highway Patrol later confirmed that the Kia driver died from his injuries.
The driver of the semi truck was not injured in the collision.
Both lanes of State Road 70 were blocked while troopers collected evidence and investigated the accident. Traffic was diverted around the scene during the closure.
The roadway reopened by Monday evening.
The accident remains under investigation.
