Driver Killed, 2 Hurt in Accident near Jog Road and Vilma Lane in Lantana

Authorities said one driver was killed and two others were injured after a car crossed the median and struck an oncoming minivan early Saturday morning near Jog Road and Vilma Lane in Lantana.

Lantana, FL.- One person was killed and two others were injured following a two vehicle accident early Saturday morning in Lantana.

The accident occurred shortly before 3:42 a.m. on August 15 near Jog Road and Vilma Lane, north of Lantana Road.

Authorities said a 2026 Honda Civic was traveling north at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The Honda struck the center median and entered the southbound lanes, where its rear passenger side collided with the front of a southbound 2015 Toyota Sienna.

Following the collision, the Honda left the roadway, struck a chain link fence, and caught fire.

The driver of the Honda Civic was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities had not identified the driver or notified next of kin at the time of the initial report.

The driver of the Toyota Sienna was identified as 44 year old Flor Del Rosario Elizabeth De Leon Mendez.

De Leon Mendez and her 17 year old passenger, Joanna De Leon, were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Additional information about the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision has not been released.

The accident remains under investigation.
