Authorities said five people were hospitalized following a tractor trailer accident that caused several vehicles to catch fire Thursday night on the Florida Turnpike in Lauderhill.
Lauderhill, FL.- Five people were injured following an accident involving a vehicle hauler and a motorcycle Thursday night in Lauderhill.
The accident occurred on August 13 on the southbound Florida Turnpike between Oakland Park Boulevard and Sunrise Boulevard.
Authorities said the collision involved a vehicle hauler carrying nine vehicles and a motorcycle.
Following the accident, a fire broke out and spread among the vehicles being transported on the hauler. Six of the nine vehicles caught fire, including two electric vehicles.
Emergency crews responded to the scene as flames spread through the vehicles. Tamarac Fire Rescue also assisted with the emergency response, and firefighters eventually extinguished the blaze.
Five people were transported to local hospitals following the incident.
According to authorities, two of the five people hospitalized were involved in a separate accident involving onlookers in the northbound lanes.
Most southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike remained closed for several hours while emergency crews extinguished the fire, assisted those involved, and cleared the scene.
The lanes have since reopened to traffic.
Authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the accident.
