Man Killed in 2-Vehicle Accident on North Florida Avenue in Tampa

Police said a Tesla was traveling north at a high rate of speed while a southbound Volkswagen was trying to make a left-hand turn to enter a local dealership. The Tesla hit the passenger’s side of the Volkswagen and rolled over.

Tampa, FL.- A man in his mid-30s was killed after a two-vehicle accident on Thursday morning in Tampa, according to the Tampa Police Department.

The accident occurred a while after 7:00 a.m. on July 2 in the 11600 block of North Florida Avenue.

Police said a Tesla was traveling north at a high rate of speed while a southbound Volkswagen was trying to make a left-hand turn to enter a local dealership. The Tesla hit the passenger’s side of the Volkswagen and rolled over.

The Volkswagen driver, a man in his mid-30s, was killed in the collision.

The Tesla driver, a man in his early 20s, also sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition as of Thursday afternoon.

The northbound lanes of Florida Avenue between Fowler Avenue and Bougainvillea were blocked for several hours to give way for an on-scene investigation.

All lanes have since reopened.

An investigation is underway.
