Portland, OR. – A passenger was killed after a traffic collision on Tuesday morning in Portland, according to the Portland Police.

The accident occurred at about 3:27 a.m. on June 30, on Northeast Lombard Street near 72nd Avenue.

Police said a vehicle was speeding on Northeast Lombard Street at a high rate of speed but failed to negotiate the turn on to Northeast Killingsworth Street. The vehicle lost control, hitting a metal light pole.

Two people, a driver and a passenger, were inside the vehicle at the time. The passenger was declared dead at the scene while the driver was rushed to an area hospital with numerous injuries.

Police closed the roadway following the collision.

Speed and alcohol contributed to the crash and criminal charges were pending.
