Troopers said the teen firefighters was heading southbound on Lewis Road when another driver heading northbound crossed into his lane and struck him head-on.

Ariel, WA. – A 17-year-old firefighter was critically injured after a head-on collision on Monday in Ariel, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The accident occurred on June 22 on Lewis River Road near Milepost 33.
Troopers said the teen firefighters was heading southbound on Lewis Road when another driver heading northbound crossed into his lane and struck him head-on.
Responding volunteer firefighters including the teen’s brother freed the victim from the fire truck. The extrication process took around 20 minutes.
The teen sustained a broken femur, hip and tibia and bruises to his neck and chest. He was rushed to the hospital where he is recovering at the ICU.
The other driver was flown to an area hospital and was charged with vehicular assult. Troopers believed the car driver, a 76-year-old man from La Center, was impaired.
