Authorities said a Nissan was heading north on University Boulevard at the same time a Dodge Challenger was travelling at a high rate of speed.

Jacksonville, FL. – One person was killed and two others hurt following a fiery hit-and-run collision on Friday afternoon in Jacksonville.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at around 3:15 p.m. on January 2, in the 1900 block of University Boulevard South.
Authorities said a Nissan was heading north on University Boulevard at the same time a Dodge Challenger was travelling at a high rate of speed. The Challenger spun out into oncoming traffic and crashed into a southbound Toyota. The Nissan hit a telephone pole and burst into flames.
The Challenger driver fled from the scene on foot. He was described as a white man in his early mid 20s with a tan complexion.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded to the scene to put out the fire.
The Nissan driver was declared dead at the scene.
Two people in the Toyota were transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The roadway was blocked for around two hours following the collision.
An investigation is underway.
