1 Killed in Train Accident at 18th Street in Boca Raton

Police said a Chevrolet Colorado was heading eastbound on SW 18th Street and halted on the railroad tracks in unclear circumstances.

Boca Raton, FL. – One person was killed after a train accident on Monday evening in Boca Raton, according to the Boca Raton Police Department.

The accident happened at 5:37 p.m. on December 16, at SW 18th Street.

Police said a Chevrolet Colorado was heading eastbound on SW 18th Street and halted on the railroad tracks in unclear circumstances. A northbound Brightline train hit the passenger side of the Chevrolet causing the car to overturn several times before coming to a halt in the embankment between the railroad tracks and South Dixie Highway.

One person was killed in the collision.

Police closed all eastbound and westbound lanes on SW 18 Street, just west of Dixie Highway following the collision. Southbound lanes of Dixie Highway were closed at SE 14th Street.

An investigation is underway.
