Atlanta, Georgia — October 12, 2025: Authorities identified Linton Blackwell, age 44, as the man shot and killed by an off-duty Atlanta Police Department officer near 41 Irby Avenue NW in the Buckhead area.
According to reports, an off-duty officer was working security at a nearby business when he recognized Blackwell, who had allegedly caused a disturbance earlier in the evening. Police say the officer encountered Blackwell attempting to enter the rear of the property. The officer claimed that Blackwell walked away, got into a vehicle, and reached for a gun. The officer stated that he gave commands that were ignored before firing multiple shots, striking Blackwell in the back. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
The off-duty officer involved was later identified as G. Walker. Investigators have not confirmed whether body or surveillance footage captured the shooting. Family members of Blackwell have publicly called for transparency and an independent review of the incident.
