Phoenix, Arizona — October 11, 2025: Authorities identified Francisco Aviles Barcenas, age 47, as the man shot and killed by officers with the Phoenix Police Department following an alleged domestic violence incident near the 3800 block of North 83rd Avenue.
According to police, officers responded to a call reporting that a man and a woman were fighting, and that the man was armed with a knife. When officers arrived, they reportedly found Barcenas holding a woman down with a knife to her throat. Police state that Barcenas ignored multiple commands to drop the weapon. Officers then fired, striking and killing him. The listed cause of death is gunshot. The investigation remains pending.
Officials later released a statement and body camera footage related to the incident. Police said the responding officers included Kyle Drake, who fired his weapon during the encounter. The Phoenix Police Department continues to review the case.
