Agustin Vazquez Calvillo Shot and Killed by Off Duty Deputy Near Corona

Corona, California — October 10, 2025: Authorities identified Agustin Vazquez Calvillo, age 50, as the man fatally shot by an off-duty member of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department near the intersection of Holy Jim Trail and Main Divide Road.

According to initial reports, an off-duty deputy was approached by a man who appeared to be under the influence and armed with a firearm. Officials say the deputy identified himself as law enforcement and issued multiple verbal commands for the individual to raise his hands. The victim allegedly refused to comply and removed a gun from his holster, prompting the off-duty deputy to open fire. Vazquez Calvillo was pronounced dead at the scene. The listed cause of death is gunshot. The incident remains under pending investigation.
