Toledo, Ohio — October 7, 2025: Authorities identified Zachary Reed, age 22, as the man shot and killed by officers with the Toledo Police Department following an armed standoff near 3115 Airport Highway.
According to officials, the incident began when an individual entered a police precinct requesting assistance in removing an armed man from his apartment, saying he feared for his safety. Officers located the suspect, later identified as Reed, who allegedly fled in a vehicle.
Police say Reed crashed shortly after and remained inside the vehicle while allegedly holding a firearm. Negotiators were called to the scene, and during the standoff, Reed reportedly made suicidal statements. According to police, he then pointed the gun toward officers, prompting them to fire, killing him at the scene.
The incident remains under a pending investigation. Body-worn camera footage has been released, showing officers’ attempts to de-escalate before Reed allegedly raised his weapon.
News outlets including 13ABC, 13ABC (Bodycam Footage), WTOL 11, and Cleveland 19 News reported that city leaders released video of the fatal encounter as part of their transparency policy.
