Michael Ray Stice Dies After Being Tased and Restrained by Officers in Monroe County

Madisonville, Tennessee — October 5, 2025: Authorities identified Michael Ray Stice, age 62, as the man who died after being tased and restrained by law enforcement officers from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Madisonville Police Department near the intersection of New Highway 68 and Turnpike Road.

According to police, an officer was driving to begin his shift when he noticed several people standing around a pickup truck that appeared disabled in the roadway. The officer approached the driver, later identified as Stice, and instructed him to place the vehicle in park. After additional officers arrived, police claim Stice attempted to flee on foot.

Authorities stated that officers deployed their tasers three times during the pursuit and a subsequent struggle to place Stice in handcuffs. Once restrained, officers reportedly noticed that Stice had begun turning blue and was unresponsive. Emergency medical services were called, and Stice was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is reviewing the incident, which remains under a pending investigation. Officials have not yet released autopsy results or confirmed whether any contributing factors, such as a medical episode or substance use, played a role in Stice’s death.

Local and state outlets including WBIR, 99.1 The Sports Animal, and WBIR (Follow-Up) reported that the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office indicated Stice may have experienced an overdose prior to his arrest.
