Kevin Eugene Barnes Fatally Shot by Police During Burglary Response in Chattanooga

Chattanooga, Tennessee — September 25, 2025:
Authorities have identified Kevin Eugene Barnes, age 44, as the man shot and killed by officers with the Chattanooga Police Department following a reported burglary at a local business.

According to police statements, officers responded to a burglary in progress at approximately 2:00 a.m. at a business located near 2145 Hamill Road in the Hixson area of Chattanooga. Upon arrival, Barnes allegedly attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle, striking a police vehicle and nearly hitting two officers in the process.

Officers then fired at Barnes, fatally striking him while he was inside the vehicle. The incident is being investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), and the case remains under pending investigation.

Officials have not disclosed whether body camera footage exists or if the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
