Chicago, IL. – The Illinois State Police are investigating a deadly crash on Monday morning in Chicago, according to the Illinois State Police.
The accident happened at around 5:10 a.m. on October 6, on southbound Interstate 94 and 29th Street.
Police said a large piece of metal came through a gray GMC Yukon windshield before the crash. The metal was believed to have come off a semi-trailer with an intermodal container.
The GMC then crashed into a concrete wall. Airbags were deployed during the crash.
The 45-year-old Chicago man was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
The GMC had a large hole in the front windshield near the driver’s seat.
The express lanes were blocked and reopened at 8:30 a.m.
An investigation is underway.
