Escambia County, FL. – Two children were injured after a DUI collision late Saturday night in Escambia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at about 9:50 p.m. on September 27, on Olive Road near Briese Lane.

Police said a 32-year-old man was driving a 2019 Kia sedan off the road and crashed into a large tree.

Two kids were riding in the sedan. A 7-year-old kid was thrown into the windshield and suffered severe injuries while the 3-year-old kid sustained minor injuries.

None of them were wearing seat belts or properly restrained.

The two were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The driver fled the crash site on foot but later returned. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was then arrested and was charged with hit-and-run with serious injuries, resisting arrest without violence, DUI crash with serious bodily injury, aggravated child abuse and child abuse.
