Responding firefighters found the car on a bend in the track fully engulfed in flames and a man was around 20 feet away in a nearby ravine.

Harvard, IL. – A driver was severely injured following a traffic collision involving a freight train versus a car early Thursday in Harvard, Chicago, according to the Harvard Fire Protection District.
The deadly collision occurred at around 2:24 a.m. on August 28, approximately a quartermile north of the McGuire Road railroad crossing.
Responding firefighters found the car on a bend in the track fully engulfed in flames and a man was around 20 feet away in a nearby ravine.
He was rushed to a Rockford hospital with severe injuries.
The involved train was local Union Pacific freight heading northbound with only five vehicles.
The train did not derail and no one was injured among the crew members.
The vehicle was removed for the tracks and roadway reopened at about 5:30 a.m.
Authorities said delays were expected for commuters on the Metra Northwest Line.
No additional information concerning this crash was provided.
