Tampa, FL. – A 61-year-old Texas man was hospitalized after a fiery semi-truck collision on Wednesday afternoon in Tampa, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident happened on August 27 on I-275 near I-4.
FHP officials said the semi was traveling westbound on I-4 when the driver had a medical emergency and was entering the downtown exit ramp for Ashley Street. The driver then lost control of the truck and it crashed into the outside barrier guardrail and concrete wall. The semi burst into flames and stopped on I-275 overpass following the collision.
The fire compromised the structural integrity of the overpass and diesel was spilled onto I-275.
The north and southbound lanes of I-275 were closed following the collision. The lanes were later reopened after 11:00 p.m. on August 27.
An investigation is ongoing.
