Police said a tractor-trailer was hauling a vehicle when it slammed into the bridge and had halted in the lane. It was then hit by a second tractor trailer hauling double trailers.

St. Clair County, IL. – A man and a woman were critically injured following a traffic collision on Monday evening in Washington Park, St. Clair County, according to the Illinois State Police.
The accident happened on August 11, on westbound Interstate 64 near Illinois Route 111 at mile marker 6.
Police said a tractor-trailer was hauling a vehicle when it slammed into the bridge and had halted in the lane. It was then hit by a second tractor trailer hauling double trailers.
Two men were in one tractor trailer and a woman was in the other. The woman and one of the men sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
Troopers said the second man had a lacerated artery, and troopers quickly applied a tourniquet that likely saved his life.
The highway was closed and drivers advised to seek an alternative route following the crash. The roadway was closed as of 10:00 p.m.
An investigation is underway.
