Police said a moped was turning east from Johnson onto McPherson Street when it was hit by a Subaru XVC traveling north on Johnson in the curb lane.

Elkhart, IN. – A 57-year-old man was critically injured and another man sustained severe injuries on Friday afternoon in Elkhart, according to the Elkhart Police Department.
The accident occurred a while before noon on Johnson Street and Baldwin Street.
Police said a moped was turning east from Johnson onto McPherson Street when it was hit by a Subaru XVC traveling north on Johnson in the curb lane.
The impact caused the moped driver and passenger to be ejected. Bystanders pulled them away from the scene since both the Subaru and the moped burst into flames after the collision.
The Moped driver, a 57-year-old man, was rushed to the hospital where he was listed in a critical condition. His passenger, a 32-year-old man, sustained severe non-life threatening injuries.
The Subaru driver, a 25-year-old woman and her small child escaped the vehicle before it burst into flames.
She stayed at the scene and cooperated with officials.
Johnson Street was blocked for several hours between Elkhart Avenue and Baldwin Street following the crash. The roadway has since reopened.
