Police said a white 1991 Jeep Cherokee was heading south in the southbound lane of SR-305 while a white 2026 Freightliner commercial motor vehicle was following closely. The Jeep drove through the center line into the northbound lane and crashed into a northbound 2020 Ford F-150.

Lander County, NV. – 55-year-old William Benes of Las Vegas, was killed after a traffic collision on Sunday afternoon in Lander County, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The deadly collision happened at about 4:30 p.m. July 20 on State Route 305 near mile marker 50, between Austin and Battle Mountain.
Police said a white 1991 Jeep Cherokee was heading south in the southbound lane of SR-305 while a white 2026 Freightliner commercial motor vehicle was following closely. The Jeep drove through the center line into the northbound lane and crashed into a northbound 2020 Ford F-150.
The Jeep sideswiped the F-150 forcing the F-150 to swerve into the southbound lane and it crashed into the left front of the Freightliner. The F-150 drove off the roadway and halted while the Freightliner Jackknifed blocking two lanes of SR-305. The Jeep also drove off the highway and rolled over.
Benes, the Ford F-150 driver, died in the collision.
The Jeep and the Freightliner drivers were transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
There were no other persons riding in the vehicles involved.
An investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit is underway.
