Police said a Honda Civic was heading north on U.S. 17, south of S.R. 40 while an international 4700 truck was heading south. The Civic tried to pass traffic and drove into the southbound lane crashing head-on with the truck.

Volusia County, FL. – A 16-year-old girl from Pierson was killed following a head-on collision on Saturday evening in Volusia County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the deadly crash occurred at about 8:50 p.m. July 19. on U.S. 17 and S.R. 40.
Police said a Honda Civic was heading north on U.S. 17, south of S.R. 40 while an international 4700 truck was heading south. The Civic tried to pass traffic and drove into the southbound lane crashing head-on with the truck.
The 16-year-old girl was the Civic driver and was declared dead at the crash site.
The 34-year-old Pierson man operating the truck was hospitalized with severe injuries.
The U.S. 17 was blocked in both directions following the accident.
