Raymond Myers Killed in Portland Bicycle Accident near Southeast 145th Avenue and Powell Blvd; Hiep Tran Arrested

Portland, OR. – An 85-year-old bicyclist died on Monday after being hit by an alleged intoxicated driver on Sunday in Southeast Portland, according to the authorities.
The accident happened around 7:00 p.m. on July 13 near the intersection of Southeast 145th Avenue and Powell Boulevard.
Authorities said Hiep P. Tran, 54, of Portland, told officers that he had been driving from his mother’s house and had been drinking before he got behind the wheel. He struck 85-year-old Raymond L. Myers, who was riding a bicycle near the intersection.
Myers was taken to the hospital, where he died on Monday, July 14.
Tran remained at the scene and an officer who talked to him said that he had bloodshot eyes and smelled like alcohol. He wasn’t wearing shoes and was struggling to walk in a straight line or talk. He was arrested and is likely facing charges of criminally negligent homicide and DUII. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 22.
An investigation is underway.
