Spokane, WA. – A woman died in the hospital while receiving treatment after being hit by a car near Manito Country in Spokane on Wednesday morning.

The pedestrian accident happened around 5:30 a.m. in the area of S. Perry Street and E. 49th Avenue, according to the Spokane Police Department.

A woman was jogging in the area when she was struck by a car.       

The adult female pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.

The teenage driver of the car abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. He was later located and arrested. Police are now working to upgrade charges against him.

A juvenile passenger in the car sustained minor injuries in the accident.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
