2 Men Killed in Wrong-Way Accident on Turnpike in Pompano Beach

The Acura driver, a Jensen Beach resident, and a 19-year-old Mercedes-Benz, from Orlando, were killed in the collision.

Pompano Beach, FL. – Two men were killed following a traffic collision on Monday morning in Pompano Beach.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 1:00 a.m. on the Florida Turnpike, just south of Atlantic Boulevard.

Troopers said the Acura TL sedan was traveling south in the northbound lanes when he crashed head-on into a Mercedes-Benz A220. The impact caused the Acura to spin around, hit a concrete barrier and burst into flames. 

The Acura driver, a Jensen Beach resident, and a 19-year-old Mercedes-Benz driver, from Orlando, were killed in the collision.

A Mercedes-Benz passenger, identified as a 22-year-old man from Key West, was transported to North Broward Medical Center for treatment.

The northbound lanes of Turnpike between Commercial Boulevard and Atlantic Boulevard were closed for several hours.

An investigation is underway.
