Ashkum, IL. – 97-year-old Mattie Robertson from Memphis, TN, was killed after a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday noon in Ashkum, according to the Iroquois County coroner’s report. 

The accident happened at around noon June 24, on I-57 northbound near milepost 293.

Per the report, Robertson entered a work zone south of Ashkum in the left lane but it was blacked ahead. She then drove over to the right lane and crashed into another vehicle. The two cars were sent into the east shoulder and halted in a corn field following the crash.

Robertson and the sole occupant of her car died in the collision.

Police closed all northbound lanes of I-57 due to the crash. The lanes were reopened at around 5:00 p.m.

No additional information concerning this crash was provided.

An investigation is underway.
