Coconino County, AZ – One person was killed and three others were seriously injured Wednesday morning in a head-on collision in Coconino County, according to the Arizona DPS.

The fatal accident happened around 11:30 a.m., June 18, on State Route 260 at milepost 285 near Forest Lakes.

Arizona DPS said a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound when it began to pass traffic in a no-passing zone and collided head-on with an eastbound sedan and an SUV.

The sedan driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Silverado driver and two people in the SUV were airlifted to Phoenix hospitals with serious injuries.

The Silverado driver showed signs of alcohol impairment.

The accident closed both directions of SR 260 for several hours and was reopened just before 7:00 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation.
