Maria Guetling Identified as Woman Killed in Accident in Evansville

Officials confirmed a box truck operated by 24-year-old Malik Latrel Stafford of Louisville, Ky. was traveling northbound when for unknown reasons it veered off the road, overcorrected and swerved into oncoming vehicles.

Maria Guetling Dies, Malik Stafford Arrested After Crash on St. Joseph Avenue

Evansville, IN. – The woman killed in a head-on collision on Monday afternoon has been identified as Maria Guetling, 31, in Evansville, Vanderburgh County.

According to the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office, the collision occurred at 3:25 p.m. on N. St. Joseph Avenue near the landfill in the area of Wimberg and Mohr Roads.

Officials confirmed a box truck operated by 24-year-old Malik Latrel Stafford of Louisville, Ky. was traveling northbound when, for unknown reasons, it veered off the road, overcorrected and swerved into oncoming vehicles.

The truck then crashed head-on into an SUV operated by Guetling.

Guetling was declared dead at the scene.

A small child in the SUV was secured in a car seat and was not injured in the crash.

Deputies conducted a chemical test on Stafford.

Stafford was arrested and charged for DUI causing death as a level 4 felony and DUI as a class A misdemeanor.
