Joliet, IL — A 57-year-old Plainfield man was killed and two other people were critically injured following a head-on traffic collision in Joliet on Saturday evening.

Joliet police said the collision occurred at about 6:54 p.m. on June 14 near Black Road and Magnolia Drive in Joliet.

The Will County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased man as David Lee Nelson.

Police said Nelson was driving a Buick Regal westbound on Black Road approaching Magnolia Drive when, for some reason, the vehicle veered left into an eastbound lane and struck an eastbound Buick Encore operated by a 68-year-old Joliet woman.

After the initial impact, Nelson’s Buick then hit a Chevrolet Silverado heading eastbound on Black Road.

Nelson was transported to Prime St Joseph Medical Center where he died.

The 68-year-old woman operating the Buick Encore and her 69-year-old passenger from Lake Station, Indiana, suffered critical injuries and were taken to St Joseph. Medical Center,

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 26-year-old Joliet man, was not injured.

No additional details regarding the crash were provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
