57-Year-Old Man Dies After Palmetto Car Accident on U.S. 41 near Scale Avenue

Palmetto, FL. – A 57-year-old man from Sarasota sustained fatal injuries after crashing into a concrete retaining wall on Wednesday in Palmetto.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened at 8:25 p.m. June 11, on U.S. 41, south of Scale Avenue.

Police said the man was heading northbound in a Nissan Versa within the outside lane of U.S. 41 and he drove onto the northbound right turn lane, then onto the grassy shoulder before crossing over Scale Avenue where he hit a stop sign.

The vehicle then drove north and crashed into a concrete retaining wall and rolled over.

The Sarasota County Emergency Medical Service crew declared the man dead at the crash site.

An investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is ongoing.
