Tucumcari, N.M. — A woman was killed and three other people were injured following a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 40 in Tucumcari Sunday morning.

The deadly collision happened at about 8:19 a.m. on June 1 on eastbound I-40 near milepost 343, according to New Mexico State Police.

Authorities said a Nissan SUV, a Nissan sedan, and two semi-trucks were involved in the crash.

New Mexico State Police said a semi-truck was traveling eastbound on I-40 when, for some reason, it rear-ended the Nissan sedan, and pushed it off the roadway.

The truck then crashed into the rear of the Nissan SUV and pushed it into the rear of another big rig hauling a trailer.

The driver of the Nissan SUV, identified as Fauna Gutierrez of Espanola, was killed in the crash.

A passenger in Gutierrez’s SUV and two passengers in the sedan were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

I-40 was shut down for several hours as police investigated the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
