Tucson, AZ. – A mother and her son were killed in a car crash on Interstate 10 in Tucson Sunday night, authorities say.

The deadly crash happened about 8:30 p.m. on June 1, in the westbound lanes on I-10 at milepost 257, and involved three vehicles.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said one vehicle had been in a non-injury accident and was partially blocking the number 1 lane of the freeway. A second driver pulled over on the median shoulder and exited the vehicle to help the people in the first vehicle.

Authorities say a commercial vehicle then crashed into the rear of the second vehicle, killing two passengers in the car.

The victims have been identified as 42-year-old Stephanie Marie Codina and her 11-year-old son. The two were pronounced dead at the scene by Tucson Fire.

No additional details regarding the crash are available.

The incident is under investigation.
