Franklin County, WA – One person was killed and five others were injured in a fiery multi-vehicle traffic collision on State Route 395 in Franklin County Saturday.
Washington State Patrol said, the crash involving four semi-trucks and four vehicles, occurred at just before 4:30 p.m. on May 31 on SR-395 about four miles north of Connell.
WSP said all the involved vehicles were traveling northbound on 395 in the extreme Saturday winds that had blown dust and wildfire smoke, making visibility in the area limited.
Several vehicles had slowed down or stopped on the side of the highway. At some point, one semi-truck rear-ended another, and several other vehicles behind crashed into the semis.
The driver of a van, identified as Andrew Thomas, 29, of Spokane, died in the crash.
Two others people were transported to the hospital due to their injuries. Three others were injured and were treated at the scene.
The highway was shut down in both directions for approximately six hours as first responders and officers worked at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
