Tampa, FL – A man was killed early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle accident in Tampa, according to the authorities.
The deadly accident happened around 3:23 a.m., May 24, at the intersection of Busch Boulevard and Armenia Avenue.
Authorities said 25-year-old Jefry Maldonado Hernandez was driving a black Dodge Ram pickup truck eastbound on W Busch Boulevard and was approaching N Armenia Avenue. At the same time, a man in his 60s was driving a green Lexus RX300 and was stopped facing southbound at the intersection.
When the light changed to green, the Lexus continued southbound and crossed over W Busch Boulevard. Hernandez continued eastbound on W Busch Blvd, ran the red light at a high rate of speed and struck the Lexus.
The impact caused the Ram to flip onto its side.
The Lexus driver was taken to the hospital where he later died. His name has not been released.
Hernandez showed signs of impairment and was arrested. He has been charged with Vehicular Homicide, DUI Manslaughter, and Driving Without a Valid Driver’s License (with Death or Serious Bodily Injury) and was taken to Orient Road Jail.
The accident remains under investigation.
