Jacob Penaflor was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

Prophetstown, IL. – A man was killed in a car crash that left another injured on Wednesday afternoon in Prophetstown.
According to the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened around 4:35 p.m. on Perkins Road at Mill Road.
40-year-old Jacob Penaflor of Prophetstown was driving a 2007 black Ford sedan south on Perkins Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a 2024 black Chevrolet crossover driven by 39-year-old Benjamin Weidel, also of Prophetstown.
The impact caused the Ford to roll several times.
Weidel was pronounced dead at the scene.
Penaflor was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
