Mattoon, IL. – A woman died after being hit by a car that crashed into a nursing home on Friday morning in Mattoon.
According to the Mattoon Police Department, the accident happened around 11:28 a.m. at the intersection of Logan Avenue and Lafayette Avenue.
Curtis Meadows, 54, was driving a Nissan Pathfinder when he crashed into the north wall of Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home, pinning two elderly women against the wall.
One woman who was identified by the Coles County Coroner’s Office as 82-year-old Sharon Harpster died at the accident scene.
The other woman was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana in critical condition.
Meadows was arrested on suspicion of aggravated DUI.
